Racing Update

With racing season in full swing, I thought I would give everyone an update on our 2010 season thus far. It is the end of June, hot and humid here in Texas. The racing heats up even more than the water does down here, so here you have it....

NHRA Super Comp events this year have been rough on the Johnson and Wheeler team, to say the least. I wish there were more to it, but I have just flat not had luck on my side. So, here is the run down of how to manage to lose 1st round at these events. Mind you, there are many more ways to lose, but these were most popular for our team.

  • NHRA Jegs.com SPORTSNationals (March 19-21, 2010): 1st Round, -.001 red.
  • NHRA O'Reilly Houston Spring Nationals (April 9-11, 2010): 1st Round, I simply got beat.
  • NHRA Div 4 LODRS - Ennis, Texas(April 23-25, 2010): 1st Round, had the tree, take .010 stripe, 8.864 to 8.866 double breakout. I'm done.
  • NHRA Div 4 LODRS - Houston, Texas (June 11-13, 2010): 1st Round, I broke an air line rolling into water box. (Who does this happen to?)

Bracket Racing (O'Reilly Bracket Racing Series at Houston Raceway Park) seems to have been our redeeming quality this year. We have done well each outing and hope to continue this streak:

  • March 27, 2010 - Round 4
  • May 22, 2010 - Round 2
  • May 23, 2010 - Round 6
  • June 19, 2010 - Round 5
  • June 20, 2010 - Round 3

I have been fortunate enough to be racing for a long time and know how hard it can be to win an event. However, I feel we have a car more than capable of getting the job done and I look forward to getting that indescribable feeling of seeing a win light in the final again in the near future. Keep your fingers crossed!

Over and Out,
JJ

Wrapped and Ready!

Wrapped & Ready!

January 18, 2010 – The new car is literally wrapped and ready to race. Since September of 2009, team JKJ has taken delivery of the new dragster gone over every nut and bolt, installed the new engine and transmission, and applied the Bar’s Leaks livery printed by ShowTime Signs. The car is now complete and ready for some testing. The team plans to begin testing in late February and early March in preparation for the first race, the NHRA JEG’s SportsNationals at No Problem Raceway Park in Belle Rose, Louisiana. See you there!

Getting Closer…

December 5, 2009 – We have the transmission bolted in the car. The engine is in the car and awaiting the water lines, fuel lines, and sensors to be connected. The car is looking good. I hope that we will start the engine after the upcoming Christmas and New Years holidays. In the meantime, we hope you and your family has a great holiday season. I know this is one of my and Katie’s favorite times of the year!

Last Race of Season Complete,
Start of Off Season Work Begins…NOW!

September 23, 2009 – We are back from the NHRA Cajun Sportsman Challenge after a tough third round loss. A friend of the team was gracious enough to pick up the new car for us while he was purchasing equipment for himself out of state. We will begin to prep the car for the Bar’s Leaks wrap next week. We will also start the process of getting the new engine and transmission over to the shop in order to begin mocking everything up for the car. There is a lot to do between now and the first of the year. It has always been a policy in both the Johnson household and the Wheeler household to take your time and prepare a race car in a thorough manner. We feel we have plenty of time to go over everything on the car and have it ready to win when it rolls out of the trailer at the first event in 2010. Stay tuned!
