Holly, Mich. (April 6, 2010) — Some 200 million cars and trucks on U.S. roads today need more than they’re getting from their motor oil. They need ZDDP, an engine oil additive that has been drastically reduced in modern engine oil formulations in order to meet Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements.
Until 1997, most engines were equipped with flat tappet camshafts which had extremely high pressure loads. To provide sufficient lubrication and prevent excess wear between the lifters and camshaft, engine oil at the time contained ZDDP (zinc dialkyldithiophosphate). But most gasoline engines built since that time use roller lifters and overhead cam followers, and don’t need the added protection provided by ZDDP. As a result of these design changes and increasingly stringent emissions regulations, oil manufacturers have reduced ZDDP to such low levels that modern oil may not provide sufficient protection for older vehicles. This is a major concern for collectors and hotrod enthusiasts, as well as the millions of Americans driving older vehicles every day.
Now Rislone®, America’s best-selling engine treatment brand for more than 80 years, has a solution. New Rislone Engine Oil Supplement with Zinc Treatment (p/n 4401) can be added to a vehicle’s oil to restore ZDDP zinc and phosphorus levels to prevent damage and wear to the camshaft, valvetrain and engine.
“Our new Engine Oil Supplement with Zinc Treatment makes new oil work in older engines,” says Clay Parks, vice president of development for Bar’s Products, manufacturer of Rislone. “It turns regular motor oil into a high-performance lubricant that reduces friction and increases engine life. Engine Oil Supplement with Zinc also works great in the extreme conditions that exist in race engines.”
Rislone Engine Oil Supplement with Zinc Treatment can be used in gasoline and diesel engines, antique and classic cars, motorcycles, tractors, industrial and agricultural machinery and all racing applications. It was designed for engines require SL/CI rated oil and older. For best protection, it should be added at every oil change. It can also be used to top off oil as needed to improve engine protection.
Rislone Engine Oil Supplement with Zinc Treatment works with all petroleum-based motor oils, including conventional, high-mileage and synthetic formulas. For gasoline engines from 1996 or earlier, add one bottle to the engine crankcase. Vehicles from 1997 to 2004 should get approximately half a bottle. On diesel engines manufactured in 2006 or earlier, add one bottle to the engine crankcase for every five quarts of engine capacity. Other applications get 20 percent of crankcase capacity.
Rislone Engine Oil Supplement with Zinc Treatment is available to distribution in case packs of six 32 oz. bottles. Like all Rislone products, it is made in the U.S.A. The label includes directions in both English and Spanish.
